This study aims to identify the level of implementation of Mathematics teaching and students’ understanding of the Maqasid Shariah principles at the lower secondary level, as well as to assess the need to integrate these principles into Mathematics instruction. The study employed a mixed-methods approach, with the first objective addressed quantitatively through a structured questionnaire distributed to 137 students at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Nilai Impian, Negeri Sembilan, while the second objective was addressed qualitatively through semi-structured interviews with Mathematics and Islamic Education teachers. The findings indicate that students’ knowledge and awareness of Maqasid Shariah principles are low because the term is not formally taught, even though related topics are covered in the Islamic Education curriculum. The qualitative findings identified several challenges in integrating Maqasid Shariah principles into Mathematics teaching. The implications of these findings highlight the need to design a Mathematics teaching approach that systematically incorporates Maqasid Shariah values, while future research is recommended to develop Maqasid Shariah-based teaching modules to enhance students’ understanding and awareness.
