Abstract

Social problems among adolescents are closely related to the value of responsibility and the social environment that affects adolescents' self-concept. This review study was conducted to see the extent of the influence of the social environment in impacting the self-responsibility of Generation Z students. A total of 807 students in 22 SMKs around the state of Johor were randomly selected as the study sample. A questionnaire was administered as the data collection process. Data were analysed using SPSS software for descriptive and inferential analyses. Multiple Regression Analysis revealed that the social environment contributed up to 50% to the value of adolescent self-responsibility. This entails parents (β=0.304), curriculum activities (β=0.254), peers (β=0.221), teachers (β=0.139), and information technology media (β=0.077). This study demonstrates that the social environment plays a significant role in shaping adolescent self-concept that is responsible. The added value of the results of this study found that the extracurricular activities are the most important predictor that contributes to adolescent self-responsibility after parents, peers and teachers that need to be given attention by all parties.
