Abstract

Professional identity is not static but fluid.  It is influential in identifying who the individual is and how the individual is perceived by those in his or her professional setting.  This article provides a discussion with respect to both personal and professional values that shape the rehabilitation practitioners’ professional identity working with extreme religious deviance cases. The research method employed in this study was an exploratory-qualitative approach utilizing in-depth interviews techniques.  A total of eight Muslim rehabilitation practitioners within Selangor and the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur had participated in this study.  The findings were analysed in a narrative manner and they indicate that personal and professional values have a strong relationship in shaping who the informants are as rehabilation practitioners.
