Abstract

The sustainable development of a society is highly dependent on the leadership style. Leadership in Islam focuses on human values and adding to that the basic principles as stated in the Qur'an and the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Based on the textual analysis of the definitions of leadership, the objective of the study is to offer a new narrative of leadership in developing society in Malaysia. Using a descriptive method on previous studies, this study found that there are four human values found in the leadership of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) namely: peace between communities, recognizing the right to life and prohibiting murder, no coercion in religion and social problems, and da'wah activities which is inviting to goodness and forbidding doing evil. This study concludes that, humane leadership that incorporates with fundamental principles of Islam while upholding the universal values of humanity should lead a new narrative of the development of the ummah in the future.

ABSTRAK

Pembangunan sesuatu masyarakat amat bergantung kepada gaya kepimpinan. Kepimpinan di dalam Islam memberi penumpuan kepada nilai keinsanan di samping prinsip-prinsip asas yang dinyatakan di dalam Al-Quran dan hadith Nabi Muhammad (saw). Menggunakan metod deskriptif ke atas kajian-kajian lepas, kajian ini mendapati terdapat empat nilai keinsanan yang terdapat di dalam kepimpinan Nabi Muhammad (saw) iaitu: perdamaian antara masyarakat, mengiktiraf hak untuk hidup dan melarang pembunuhan, tiada paksaan dalam beragama dan permasalahan sosial, dan aktiviti berda’wah mengajak kepada kebaikan dan melarang melakukan kejahatan. Kajian ini merumuskan bahawa, kepimpinan insani yang terangkum di dalamnya prinsip-prinsip asas Islam dan mengangkat nilai sejagat kemanusiaan wajar memimpin naratif baharu pembangunan ummah di masa hadapan khususnya di Malaysia.
