This study is an effort to highlight the views of one of the Islamic scholars who has contributed a lot of time and energy to studying the traditions of other religions. His name was Abū al-Fath Muhammad Ibn ‘Abdul al-Karīm Ahmad al-Shahrastānī (479/1086-548/1153). Thus, the study presented here is to look at the typological nature of religion as it has been developed exclusively by al-Shahrastānī. The focus of the writing is on how he classifies religious typologies and how he expresses and elaborates on such classifications in his masterpiece, al-Milal wa al-Nihal. This research employs a qualitative method by analyzing data descriptively. The finding of study found that the question of religious recognition and respect, as well as tolerance, can be observed from the concept of religious typology as established by al-Shahrastānī in his book, al-Milal wa al-Nihal.
